About Me

Welcome to The Scriptural Deacon.

I'm glad you stopped by.

My name is Deacon Joseph Kibbe, and I serve in the Ukrainian Catholic Church while also assisting regularly in a local Roman Catholic parish. For many years I have had the privilege of preaching, teaching Scripture, and walking alongside people as they seek to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is this:

The Bible is not simply a collection of ancient books. It is one beautiful story of God's love for His people—a story that reaches its fulfillment in Jesus Christ and continues in our lives today.

That conviction is the reason this blog exists.

Whether I'm writing about the Gospel of Mark, the Old Testament, a classic film, or an ordinary experience from family life, my hope is always the same: to help others discover that God is still at work, still speaking through His Word, and still transforming hearts.

My Vocations

Life has given me several callings, and each one has shaped both my faith and the way I read Scripture.

Husband

My wife, Joanne, and I were married on November 1, 2008. Looking back, I can honestly say that marriage has transformed me. God has used Joanne to challenge me, encourage me, and teach me that love is less about grand moments and more about daily faithfulness.

Father

Together we have been blessed with nine wonderful children, including a set of twin girls who have added even more joy—and a little more noise—to our home.

Parenthood has been one of God's greatest classrooms. It has taught me patience, humility, sacrifice, and unconditional love. More than anything, it has helped me understand, in a small way, the love that our Heavenly Father has for each of us.

Some of life's greatest lessons are learned around the dinner table, during bedtime prayers, or in the ordinary moments that often pass unnoticed.

Deacon

I was ordained to the diaconate on June 17, 2012, for the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Serving at the altar and proclaiming the Gospel has only deepened my conviction that Scripture is meant to be lived, not merely studied.

One of the greatest joys of my ministry is helping people discover the connections that run throughout the Bible. Genesis prepares us for the Gospel. The prophets point to Christ. The Old Testament comes alive in the New. Nothing in Scripture stands alone.

Small Business Owner

Outside of ministry, I help lead our family's swimming pool and spa business, which my parents founded in 1976.

Working with customers every day has taught me lessons that seminary never could. Patience, integrity, humility, and serving others are not only Christian virtues—they are necessities when working with people. I've come to believe that our workplace is just as much a mission field as our church.

Why The Scriptural Deacon?

Several years ago I began this blog as a way to share my love for Scripture.

As time has passed, it has become something more.

It has become a place where the Bible, the wisdom of the Church, family life, work, and the ordinary experiences of life all come together.

Here you'll find:

  • A verse-by-verse journey through the Gospel of Mark.
  • Studies connecting the Old and New Testaments.
  • Reflections on faith and family life.
  • Thoughts inspired by great books and classic films.
  • Homilies and practical encouragement for everyday discipleship.

Above all, I hope you'll find Christ.

My Hope for You

If these articles encourage you to open your Bible a little more often...

If they help you see the unity and beauty of God's plan...

If they deepen your prayer life...

Or simply remind you that Christ is walking beside you today...

...then this blog has accomplished its purpose.

Thank you for visiting.

I hope you'll pour a cup of coffee, spend some time exploring, and join me as we continue discovering how every page of Scripture points us to Jesus Christ.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." — Psalm 119:105
